Amino compounds in lipopolysaccharides.

In a previous report (1) the isolation, toxicity and some chemical data concerning the lipopolysaccharide endotoxin of Neisseria gonorrhoeae was described. The present investigation includes the following: (a) an improved modification of lipopolysaccharide phosphoric acid ester preparation; (b) hydrolysis of lipopolysaccharide phosphoric acid ester and removal of fatty acids; (c) separation of amino compounds by unidimensional ascending partition chromatography on filter paper; (d) quantitative estimation of the amino compounds by spectrophotometry employing the eluates of the ninhydrin-copper compounds (2) ; (e) comparison of the chromatograms of the amino compounds in lipopolysaccharide phosphoric acid ester derived from different gram-negative organisms.
